Rode 25 miles on my specialized hardrock. I would of gone for longer but it was starting to get dark and my butt was killing me.
Also I got a chance to try out my new clip pedals and it's a world of difference. Though this was the first time I used them on a non stationary bike so needless to say I fell over once or twice maybe 4 times. Though it's worth it!

They make what would be a grueling ride into a "Oh yeah I can do that, easy!"

If my damn copy of GT6 decides to work I might join yall. It's about a 50/50 chance of it working or not working. What I might do is go exchange my copy and see if that helps anything and then join yall. Also that's pretty cool that your school has a cycling club.

Damn reading things like this make me jealous. I've been wanting to get into serious MTB riding for years and years, but never had the money, time, or really the location. Someday I will. I want to build a sexy DH bike more than I want life itself sometimes.

Mine are entry level Shimano SPDs. I can't remember what kind specifically because it was just a bunch of numbers. They're great and I love them. I am getting a road bike in April and was thinking just getting road pedals but then I figured I might as well get mountain bike pedals and put them on the road bike and then upgrade to road bike pedals when I have some more money. I figured that way I would have a set for my mountain bike for when I wanted to go mountain biking!

I really like my hardrock 29er disc and for $600 it's in my opinion of the best mountain bikes for the money! Also I don't really ride my off road too much because I don't have many of friends who like to off road and that stuff can be dangerous and something you shouldn't do alone!

Oh I do have padded shorts. It's just that the seat on my bike is terrible!

I dont swear by the brand, but I picked up a decent seat made by nishiki to replace the Skye Racing one. What a difference. Jealous youre on the road, too wet and cold up here.
Keep working on those SPDs, and adjust the tension if you have a lot of trouble. Theyre great, but dont sacrifice your safety!

I've never heard of Nishiki. I'll check them out when I have a bit more money to afford a better one. Which specific one do you have? I've also been looking at Brooks saddles because my brother swears by them. He rode across America with Bike and Build and told me that along with his Defy he was comfortable the whole way!
But yeah it got up to 65 here today and by the end of my ride it was getting down to 40 which is not fun.

Yeah agreed. Its intimidating for sure. I also have a lack of MTB friends haha. In this area its not really something people do. I have an old (I think 04 or 05) Gary Fischer Tassajara right now, and I gotta say...the thing is a tank. It's light, agile, and for a budget bike (was only like $550) its literally been through hell and back with little/no maintenance and still rides like new. Quality bikes are a great investment to be sure.

Nishiki is not a high end brand, but the seat is way more comfortable. With the workout regimine moving me up and down, I cant complain much, but several hours at a time is hard on my back. Even with that though, I need to get on the trainer more often. I said I would today, but Im just not feeling it. Id rather be on the road.

Not to be that guy...but when you say "clip pedals" you mean something like an SPD where it clips to your shoes.... They are actually referred to as "clipless"... I know it's dumb...Also I didn't read all the comments so sorry if someone already told you

Nice, I'm getting back into cycling this years after a 4 year layoff due to a bum knee. Had the knee replaced last year-just waiting for some decent weather. Have fun out there....

If funds permit....buy road shoes and road pedals. Mountain bike SPD's are smaller and MTB shoes (generally) are less stiff then road bike shoes....you'll get hot spots on the bottom of your feet running mtb pedals on your road bike if you ride for more then and hour or so. Go to Performance and look at something like these shoes and pedals . I have something similar to this (mine are older) and they work pretty good.
